I'm trying to get some technical information straightened out.
I have a '91 Mazda MX-6 non-turbo auto transmission (here in Canada) and the front strut dampers are no longer functioning properly. The vehicle does not have the electronically controlled damper system. Every time I hit a bad bump I get a thunking and springing sound as if the coils are going to come out of the fender towers.
I got in touch with the dealer who quoted a price of $210.00 per strut, plus, $160 per coil, plus, $100 per thrust plate, plus, rubber bushings (which tend to fail often on the MX-6's).
The mechanic also told me that the parts for the MX-6 are unique and are not interchangeable with other models (namely 626). I find this hard to believe.
The reason for my e-mail is that there are some older 626's and ford probes at a local scrap yard and the price per strut (incl. the strut, coil and thrust plate assembly) is $30.00 per side.
What year and model Mazda 626 or Ford Probes should I be looking at in order to purchase the correct strut assembly ?? Are most parts interchangeable or just certain mechanical parts ??
Any help would be appreciated.
