Hi guys, I own a '93 TX5 2.5 V6 and are currently having trouble trying to find a good sports air filter for my original airbox. I've currently tried three now & none have fitted. The airbox has quite rounded edges on i, so you're average rectangular one wont fit. I was wondering if any of you guys have managed to get one. I'd rather not get a pod. Secondly I also would like a full 2 1/2 inch sports exh system, but cannot find extractors that wont cost a fortune. I'll settle with a catback if I have to, but would prefer a ful sys.

what filters have you tried?
k&n make one as well as 02rush i believe, any distributor will be able to get one for you.
I would seriously reconsider the extractors though, its a worthwhile mod not that i have a 2nd gen but generally speaking they will provide you with more top end or bottom end acceleration depending on how they are designed, anything aftermarket will give you a noticable gain.
another thing worth considering is gettin some of the ultra flexible 3inch piping from pirtek ($15 a meter) and set a ram type system directly into the airbox, cut a 3inch hole to suit... can make a nice saturday project out of it
happy modding! |

I've got a '92 TX5 with the same engine as yours.
I used to have a "K&N Filtercharger" panel filter for the stock airbox, it was a special order through my local Autobarn for around $120, a couple of years ago.
Ive got a pod now, attached to a Simota CAI.

u find the pod actually works better with the 2nd gen?
I've had both systems on my 6 and after the chip/exhaust and boosting i found the pod was less restrictive giving a little more power (afaik according to gtech quarter miles)... i imagine though if you've only got mild modz then the colder air would yield a better gain??? |

I've only tried K&N so far. The guys at repco & sprints said out right to me that their isn't one that'd fit my airbox, but then I went to another guy who was pretty certain that they'd have one. He got me 3 different ones and they were all wrong. Eventually I ripped mine out n slapped it on the counter for him to measure, and he still got it wrong!! He's officially given up. I think he ordered me one for a '93 626, do you guys know if their airbox is slightly different then the tx5? I'd really like extractors, but I've been quoted $1k for custom made ones & that kinda blew that Idea out of the water. Now I know that these a filter out there that'll fit, I'll keep searching |

the 626 filter should fit your tx5 I think. The airbox should be the same.
