1tina: not sure if this in the right forum, but I need a little help with wiring up an amp, its only a 2 channel amp I have 2 12" subbies to wire up as well, alls I need to know, is what is wired up to the amp, is it the speakers or the head unit?
V8 Wagon: Both. The amp "amplifies" the sound, the head unit provides the input either at "line level" from RCA plugs on the back or if it doesnt have these, directly from the speaker outs (you will need a "high power input" on your amp if this is the case) The speakers are connected to the output side of the amp.
You will also need to connect permanent power to the amp (usually a red wire), an earth (black or green) and a remote power (orange or yellow) which turns it on when the key is turned to "accessories".
1tina: ok, one last question, where is the orange (remote power) connected?
V8 Wagon: easy answer..... connect it to anything that turns on when you turn the key to accessories, the cigarette lighter is probably an easy one. It doesnt draw much current it just opens a relay allowing the amp to draw power from the permanent power (which should be a nice thick wire)
1tina: thanks for the info, I'll let ya know how I go when I get around to installing it (which should be within the next 2 weeks - hopefully)
-------------------- WHOHOO ... got my opens today ... as much as it would matter to me anyway ... and 96 in the ash tray! |
