so your engine is ticking on start-up then it disappears?
your Hydrolic lifters will be causing the problem if this is the case, it could also be related to poor oil pressure in the engine so that might be worth checking out aswell.
First thing's first, give your engine and oil engine flush with a product from someone like nulon, buy yourself and oil filter and some thinner oil, perhaps a semi or full synthetic oils like mobil s or mobil1. The oil change/flush will usually clear up the passages which get clogged causing the sticking, if its still evident you can actually clean them but thats a lengthy procedure, try the oil change first and see what happens...
note that our injectors are pretty damn loud on our engines, if the noise is constant even after the engine is warm get your self a long screwdriver and position it on one of the injectors with your ear on the other end to listen if the injector noise is in sync with the ticking..

i believe they adjust automatically... ive heard the ticking noise is related to not enough oil getting thru causing them to stick... with a good oil flush product like something from nulon it should have an effect on it.. if it doesnt your going to have to clean them up manually.. i post up details on a how to, just need permission of someone before i can |

They cna be adjusted by takoing of the cam cover it will jsut take a trained merchanic and a new cam gasket It will jsut depend on how baddly damaged the HLA's are in most cases if under 200,000ks they can just be adjusted
