When I had it dynoed, and it pulled the 113kw, 504Nm atw, I was running 9psi. Now I've replaced the dodgy BOV, it's running 12psi. No boost controller, or removed solenoid. Pretty happy with that. Would like to know what it will be putting out now.

When I had it on the dyno last, he checked the Air Fuel ratios. it was running too rich in the top end. So to my horror at the time, he popped the top off the airflow meter, and rotated the spring a tad. It means it gave it more torque, almost to redline, instead of dieing in the arse at about 4500rpm. This has also stopped the ECU being triggered for excess flow, causing boost cut.
I'm not running any boost controller, everything on the turbo side is stock. Albeit, in great condition biggrin.gif . I will hopefully be putting it on the dyno tommorrow, and should see a heathly rise, even though I can hear a bit of an exhaust leak...

Dude tya sure the whizzing noise wasnt just the turbo spooling up..or maybe a pod filter or soemthign if it had one?? Dont bother dipping the stocks in crome they come up really good when polished you'd be better off just leaving em how they are and working really hard on em...anyways just my opinion catch mate

Hi there, just read your step by step cold air intake with pics from another site. It's cool.
3 questions:

a) Did you notice much improvement?
cool.gif What happens when it rains heavily, will water gets in stuff thigs up?
c) If driving on country highways, have you put a grill in front of the tube to filter out insects?

Like your car

Bjaw, thanks mate. Boost came on 200rpm earlier. AS for rain, haven't had any probs what so ever. I never bother putting a grill in front of it. I have'nt had any big stuff go into the airbox at all. Hope this helps ya!

hey sabbai , i also checked out your info on how to make custom cold air intake , so i thought i would give it a go , i went to supercheap got flexy tubing pretty cheap , did same steps as you and came out realli good , i had to relocate sum wiring that was running inside the panel but thats bout it no other problems but i would suggest 2'1/2 in piping would be alot easier to run through panel as i had a bit of trouble with 3in but in the end came out nice i will post pic soon. thanks for show casing how to do it etc , realli helps. ps DON;T ASK SUPERCHEAP AUTO PPL ABOUT ANYTHING OR PARTS !

Hey Sabbai,

I also attempted the cold air intake tube installation on Easter weekend. I went to Superchaep Auto too bought a $30 tube (blue one, as they didn't have red nor black at the time). Took me 3 hours!!! I had to removed the battery and the bottom panel in order to get my hand through to unscrew the 'tricky' screw. But it's good man. Last weekend was cold, I did a test drive after this job, and the car is definitely more responsive!!! Thanks again for the photos!!!

guys, how many of u are in the 12 second bracket or even 13 seconds? i would love to know how much it would cost to bring my tx5 into that bracket with the original engine (gonna rebuild it of course) might replace turbo, need advice on which turbo will give best all-round response in all areas and ends (top and bottom even mid) but yeah... getting boosted soon like this week and then chip the week after hopefully but i wanna know how much it would cost to have it rebuilt and tuned up... any guys in perth i can take it to (im thinking formaz is the best place but not sure)... thanx guys

Hi mate. One of my mates who has an MX6, (same mechanicals), his car has run a 13.7 quarter. Basically, it has been chipped, high flowed standard turbo, Rising rate fuel pressure regulator, big fuel pump, etc. Torsen LSD. No engine rebuild. Port and polish. Stock cooler, stock pipes etc. Don't need to spend heaps to get 13's.
