G'Day,

Just after some feed back and opinions. I am looking at buying a 3.8l 5 speed Calais tomorrow. I doubt there are too many of them around but I could be mistaken. I only intend to keep the car for 6 months tops then upgrade to a VT SS once the house sells...

Anyone with tips on what potential probs etc regarding the VN would be appreciated,

Agro

hmmm cant really say, i know of a guy who buys a new one every 3 months or so and sells his old one, nfi why.. probably just a form of employment for him.. but really he doesnt seem to have many issues with them, nothing generally the same...

i suppose just check the usual, CV's, oil, lift off the cap to see if there is any smoke coming out of the cam cover, make sure its cold before you start it... grab urself a compression tester if you really concerned.. but really as long as it drives well and there isnt any unusual noises you should be right for at least 6 months i would imagine...

Check the Power Steering!....... i haven't known a VN without a p/s problem, check the rack too!....

Being a calais make sure all the nifty electricals work, and definately ask the dealer/owner to take it to a garage for a check over..... It will be well worth it! cool.gif (i've made that mistake, don't beleive anything you are told) remember its an old car, so you're gonna want it to last the 6 months wacko.gif

How much are you paying for it!? With an old commodore, you'll always get your money back, if not more... private sale that is!

As far as i know there are only a couple of vn manuals up here in the teriitory, neither of which are calais, so i'd say its rare. biggrin.gif

Lucky for me it was at a car yard almost across the road from my mechanic smile.gif He gave it the once over.

No major probs with car and I found out there were only 200 Calais manuals made.

Brought it home today cool.gif v. happy with it so far. All electricals and gadgety bits work bar the intermittent part of the wipers.

Pics soon lol
