Yeah, not bad for a 1979 "family" car. Haven't decided what my next "modification" will be yet, cos I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment. mad.gif

I'd like to have the car resprayed in metallic silver, but with a quote of over $3000, that's somewhat beyond my budget at this stage......however, as you can see from the photos, I've already started respraying the wheels, using Holts dupli-color Auto Spray ( in 150 gram cans), and at only $10 per can, it's a relatively cheap alternative. The Dupli-Color is acrylic lacquer, and I finished up spraying on 3 coats of Clear Top Coat which also comes in a 150 gram can..... it's sorta like a "budget 2 pac " paint job. Too bad I can't do the whole car that way !

smile.gif nice home job on the wheels I used that paint to paint my wpers and mudflaps they look really good now. Umm ya should be able to get your car done for cheaper than that Ive been quoted 1500 for a full respray in black panther with purple flakes.

1500 dollars sounds much more realistic to me Zorb, but unfortunately I can't get any of the Professionals in my area to do it for less than $3000....... I could get a "backyard" spray for around $800, but I want a paint job that's going to look good, and last for more than a couple of years.
Unfortunately there's a fair bit of "putty" work to be done, and that puts the price up...... I've already tried spraying some Dupli-Color on the roof as an experiment, and it came out a bloody mess crying.gif
Oh well, at least the wheels came out ok smile.gif

Umm a good Idea rather than seeing actual paint shops is to go to your local panel beater also suggest that you can buy the paint (sold at any auto paint place in wahtever colour u want) and offer to sand the car back yourself. usually they'll do it for a lot cheaper that was as there not getting the paint (dont have to spend time colour matching and shit) and its also less labour cause they dont have to sand back and prep smile.gif....Another alternative could be to get ya car sprayed in bits cheaper but looks a bit tacky to drive around in

Thanks for the tips Zorb..... my local Panelbeater told me basically the same thing........but I've got a bad back, and sanding back is out of the question. I think I might go for the "one panel at a time" option. I know it's not as good as getting the whole car sprayed at the same time, but I'm not intending to enter it in any "show and shine" contests, so it won't really matter.
I've been quoted around $300 to spray the boot ( outside only ) so I'll probably start with that......... means I'll have to drive around without a boot lid for about a week, but I'm willing to give it a go ............... rolleyes.gif

Haven't done anything in the way of respraying the body yet..... but I managed to get another 1979 Mazda 626 for spare parts...It was sitting in a backyard in Queanbeyan for about 10 years and has a lot of rust in the body, but the engine parts are in good condition.-- I only paid $100 for for it, so I can't complain about that...There's 2 thumbnail pictures of the spare car, including the engine bay but unfortunately you can't view the full size pictures. sad.gif
