Anyone in any form of MA?

Just wondering who here has done a form of matrial arts and what you have gained from the experience. Im considering taking up an art for a number of reasons, self defence is a motivator but its hardly the main reason, i dont have a confronting nature so i will alwayz try to avoid any altercation anywayz. From what i've read it seems that a form of Martial art will assist in self development as well as improve self confidence quite a bit, both aspects i find quite appealing. So let me know of your experiences or maybe friends of yours that you have seen go through the motions smile.gif

I have been doing Taekwondo for a number of years. Started out as self defense, and turned out to be great excersize. As you get older, it helps maintain your range-of-motion (stretch), strength and agility, especially when most of your week days are spent behind a desk....

Well I have done lots from being a kid especailly with asian background
I started with just simple Karate which was more self -defence at the time I was a really small Kid, Skinny like but picked on a bit. but then I stopped it when I was about 10 or so. I started by then getting bigger and way more aggressive (don't know why) I did a form of martial arts and Kickboxing and then a little meditation for the angger. so now I swing in and out of moods. I generally can find myself in areas I would hit something before now. Well peoples cars don't cop it.
Like last night picked up the old man form a flight interstate, being pissed (normal) he started to rave on crap, He knows I have doen some crazy damged but due ot the control neither the pay station at the airport car park or few other things coped it.
I use some of my skills I know for when I get in bad situations but, I usually use my mouth to get out of most. Drunk people are hard to control sometimes. But I do know how to street fright, been in lots from age of 11. Even been in between two distincts groups.
I find if you know you can't fight, Doing somthing like Karate or kickboxing mix is best. With weight training for fitness it really helps. I have come across a few people who jsut need thme skilsl ot get them out of a problem. They strong can throw a punch but that's it.
I ain't strong I can't run (flat size 17 footed & fat arsed) So either taking a beating or knowing how to defend my self are my only option. Now that guns arin't legal well my hands are my best.

I have lots of friend who do similar some do it becuase they are naturally agressive and it helps them control it. Others are not but need it to control other things and other people.

I recomend it.
If I ever ger the time I plan on doing it again. Might have to get a new uniform was too big when I was 14 now it's too small.
