Well ever since i got the turbo upgraded i noticed that oil levels have been slowly deminishing. So yesterday i decided to get out the degreaser and degrease the whole side of the engine where oil/grease is building up. After some adjustments to my BOV and Wastegate (to resolve my massive boost spikes sad.gif). I took the thing for a quick lap around the suburb and popped the hood.

Now after the degreasing the engine was completely clean, not a trace of oil anywhere, when i popped the hood after the quick trash the amount of fresh oil that just leaked out was amazing! It was practically all over the engine and made its way down to the bottom of the sump which started a fresh puddle on the ground again. After a closer inspection it appears that the oil is squirting out the front left corner of the cam cover (where the timing belt and pully's are located) as though the bolts are not torqued properly or the cam cover gasket is gone.

I believe this whole problem started when i had my intercooler leak, to find out if air was getting into the intake system i decided to cover the AFM completely and rev the tit's of the F2T. Surely enough after finding the leak and correcting it i tried again which caused the car to stall (no more leaks), however before the stall whilst i was revving the F2T i was getting this extremely loud whistle from the same area of where the leak is now occuring. So whats happening here, the air is obviously being sucked, but is it thru the cam cover or perhaps thru where spark plug number 4 sits? (sparkie next to timing belt, or is that spark # 1 blush.gif ).

So anywayz.. hopefully its just a matter of replacing the gasket and all will be fix, my concern is that its not the gasket tho, i mean if the engine requires air due to sufocation (covering AFM) would if need it in the actual combustion chamber and not just inside the engine where the oil is lubricating? Maybe my rings are completely gone and air is finding its way in thru there? i dunno.. if any1 has any idea let me know icon4.gif Also if there are any pointers with replacing the cam cover gasket let me know, i understand that there is an order for the removal of the bolts and a certain torque setting, is there any other info that could help me out?

will take pics tomorrow of oil leak!

well after degreasing again this morning, i took the thing out for another quick lap and when i popped the bonnet i was amazed at the amount of oil that came out within the short period of driving. You cant really see much oil in the pic's (not the best digital camera) but at this rate im sure i will be going thru quite a bit of oil in just a week...

The most alarming thing happened when i revved the car just after returning from the quick lap and heaps of white smoke was coming out of the cam cover oil to intake pipe (3rd pic) upon deceleration. I then removed the oil cap can heaps of white smoke was also coming out from there, after a few revs tho it all returned to normal, whats the story? is my engine screwed? crying.gif

After further inspection it looks like there are spots around the cam cover where oil is leaking, no where near as bad as the one indicated below but still worth noting. Hopefully after i change the gasket everything will be ok, that white smoke tho is really alarming me.. Also will i need some sort of sealant when i replace the cover, maybe place the stuff on both the top and bottom of the gasket?

here are some pics

You can see a little oil in this pic, basically thats where the oil is coming from

Yes it's a turbocharged FE3, (soon on the bottle) and NO you can't drive it

lol red... when all i've done is replaced the alternator on the F2T then its probably a lil tougher icon4.gif

Will i need to put some sort of silicone sealent on both sides of the gasket?

Should i drain the oil from the engine before i attempt this?

Hopefully i can get a torque wrench from my mechanics so i can torque the bolts up correctly, went to an auto store yesterday to get a price on one and they are selling for $100 and up blink.gif , they didnt even have any in stock. dry.gif

To hell with the blue RTV!!!!!!!!

I use something else........don't remember the name right now (as I am really drunk)

IIRC the torque specs are 17 in/lbs.
NO!!! You don't have to drain the oil first.

I'm telling you .........10 min. from the time you find the right size socket you will be done. wink.gif

ok ok..

well i was feeling a little adventurous so i decided to pull out the rocker arm assemblies and clean out the HLA's and oil passages to them and inspect the cam. Looks like the engine has been maintained very well, no oil passages were clogged, basically the whole thing was pretty much clean already, just put fresh oil in the HLA resivours and cleaned the rocker arms with some WD40 and fresh oil...

Ok the only thing that im a little concerned about are the pillow bearings(?), the three center plates that bolt onto the head that the assembly arms rest on (and help divide the rocker arms). My only concerned is that im not 100% certain that i put them back in the same order ohmy.gif i mean the center one if fine rolleyes.gif but the other two on either side im just not sure....

If any1 remembers the reassurance would save me a few years of my life lost to stress so please speak up, the left side (closest to timing belt) currently has a number 2 written on it and the one at the other end has nothing, there are also number sequences which i have no idea wat they mean, and i believe that on the engine its currently something like after my manipulation rolleyes.gif

Also thanks for the torque rating red, i torqued the rocker arm retaining bolts to 20ft/lbs which according to mx6.com is correct...

cheers,
