Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone here has fitted aftermarket seats to their car, and what type they have fitted. How much did it cost you, and if your in Perth(West Oz) could your recommend any places to check out?
Also wanted to know the same for New carpet(floor carpet) and interior retrimming.
Thanks

Well I have been down this trip but not with my Mx-6 in terms of carpet. I did some investigations on seats first what you need to know is that aftermarket seats that are not ADR approved there are some that are from memory the only two I know of in brand from are SAAS and VELO (note Velo only make bucket no recliner) SAAS are ADR approved. But in NSW you have to get blue slip when you replace seats. Reason they have to have the same hip position, it's all safety crap. Now you don't have to do any of this but be warned if you get defected and you are is pulled into the RTA they may defect you or your insurance can legally not pay out. Now I picked up 2nd Hand factory seats out of a smashed car. Has been in & worked for some time but now have turned into the loose back drivers seat I had before. I do have a spare passenger seat but it has glass on it as the place I bought them only sell pairs. So I am keeping it as a spare. The problem with Mazda seats is that there rails and mounts are riveted to the seat frame/runners not bolted. it is very hard to bolt the factory seat to another cars rails. If you go aftermarket use the factory Mazda mounts. drill out the rivets, or make custom mounts but using the old mount allows it to be passed more easily. I have done it to many 323's and Holden’s. Don't try and make new holes to bolt them in. it's a no in our cars.
As for carpet GO grab Hot 4's and look go for them molded carpet guys in your state. grab the right 626 style 86-90 or 92-96 order what style and color. If your interior is gray I say get charcoal. Black is too dark but is okay if you plan on a retrim. Gray is too light unless you know you will never spill anything. but dirty's easy. Plush pill is not as nice as you think. It's best if you can get to a place that sells carpet. I suggest if in Sydney a place on Hume Highway in Lansvale. Go feel how it's going to be. Get some new sound deadener, a must trust me a $30 sheet will cover the floor and replace the old stuff. Also gives you a spare lot for under the seat.
Carpet is molded to the cars shape but you must add the holes for gear stick and other bits like seat bolts. You can get them to do it but , I suggest you do it yourself, this way you can add extra's you may want.
Install Part 1 To install pull out your seats, next unclip your rear seat, if you don't know how. It's too little buttons white you push in under each side of the seat. Now take off your scuff plates on the bottom of the doors. You will see stapled some clips rip them off you will need them latter to add to the new carpet. now take out the middle console and kick panels and rear side panels bottom bits. Now remove all the little push in holders. You can now remove the carpet from the car
Part 2 place old carpet over new and mark out area's to cut out. also note where the holes for bolts and clips to go in dry fit before doing so. Try and make holes small. I suggest getting the right size drill bit and a blow torch and heating it and pushing it thought the carpet and underlay/ sound deadener.
Part3 Once you have place the sound deadener where you want it holding in place can be easy or difficult. I suggest a little Salastic. now place your carpet clip it in, then replace all the carp in Part 1 new carpet.
Note all new carpet will pile and pit a bit of fluff, so it can be a little fluffy. This can cause a little problem if it's black and you have been in back having fun with another person, when you go to pick something off the floor
