hello guys,
I really need some advise on my carburettor. My car's a 91 Telstar 12V 2.0 fitted with a carb system unlike most of you who are fortunate to have efi models.
Jerking #1 Lately, my car's been jerking on acceleration....it hesitates for a few seconds when I put my foot down and picks up shortly after. Sometimes these few seconds run to at least half a minute! It also jerks when I accelerate on my final drive....
Jerking #2 Sometimes when I accelerate, let go and accelerate again, the “his royal jerkiness†rears his ugly head again! Bad boy!…
What could be the problem as the carburettor is still in good condition, everything else functions well!
How could I eradicate this problem? Anyone has the factory manual for the carb model?
Pls help!

Just sounds like it is flooding, over fuelling.... you say the carby is in good condition... have you looked inside... i.e jets are ok... needle and seats ok... is your float set at the right level??? Don't know how much of this will relate to your model carby.. i would suggest buying a rebuild kit and having a play...
They come with full instructions on how to rip apart and refix your carb and is fun and interessting!!! sometimes it's frustrating too, i advise doing this on a weekend! so you have a spare day!!!
Is you car manual or Auto?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply!
My car's a manual.
Well, i haven't exactly looked inside the carb, you know having it opened apart. i've actually have a clearer picture of the problem.
There are absolutely no jerks when the car is cruising.
The problem only occurs during the initial acceleration, under both slow and hard acceleration. my guess is that this could be related to either my accelerator pump or power valve.
but then again, how do I check? Would you know if these two items can be adjusted?
thanks!, Sudha

It sounds like the plunger pump on the carb, is worn, is sticking, or the boost is damaged. I'm not too familiar with the carb versions of this motor, but with other carb motors I have worked on, this does help if you change it. It shouldn't be too expesive to change anyway. |
