Ever since I was a kid, and watched Mad Max and the cars they used in the movie, I've always wondered what classic muscle was like down under.
I'm a classic Mercury car owner/driver, and found this place totaly by accident.
I've always wanted to visit Australia, and have some aquaintanance in Adilade that are also classic car nuts. Anyone in here from that area of Australia?
I also got to work pretty close with some Aussies while in Qatar a year or so ago. All I can say is, FUN. Good people from what I've seen.
I droped a picture of my car and truck in the gallery (if not yet, then tonight). I hope you don't mind a "damn American" dropping in to see what's up down under. Especialy since I shift with my right hand.. hehehehe

Well i'm not in Adelaide.... bit further up in Darwin. But hey, i've got a classic but not as classic as yours. You beat me by about 4 years.
Your car looks awesome, i love the way the headlights sit, one on top of the other! and 2 door is cool too!
Welcome to totalrpm....

Thanks and it's fun knowing there are muscle car fans in other countries these days. Too much rice in the world for this guy (I tried going the hi-po Honda route with little succes no pun intended).
Are car's & parts hard to come by or expencive down under? It's not cheap here by any means, but it's not as bad as some of the things in Europe I've seen. (I've also got a '97 Volkswagen Passat VR6).
Cheers and keep up the good site, this is a good find if you ask me, Justin

Well I know Adelaide a bit and they do lov there classic cars.
Australian muscle cars.
Well Iahve to say we never stopped with them Msot aussie classics were actually 4 Door but the rare ones are 2 door coupes.
Just liek the New Pontiac GTO is a a 2 door version of an australian Family car.
The big motored Muscle cars were the 351 Ford XA and XB Coupes like in Mad max and the Holden (GM) 2 door Monaro's which had 350 CHev's. but both cars the 302 Windsor motor in the FOrd is more comon and the 308 Holden in the Monaro's.
The late 60's muscle cars are very popular. espcially with FORD's the Holdens were popluar across the 60's and 70's. but in 1975 they droped the 2door monaro's and kept 4door version, they are now becoming more collectors items but.
But it's not just our version of Us car which is what Ford and GM holden made in them days. Car like the torana which had a 202 cubic inch straight 6 Won many races they are being spotted in many generation with Big 355cubic inch V8's.
Right up to the 80's Alot of special model runs. Just like When Pontiac had I think it was a firebird with turbo Buick V6 3.8L
A lot of classic Japanese cars are rarer ,but comon enough, they are still sought after. Espeically Mazda's and Toyotas. Honda's are rarer by anything before about 77.
Of course we have a few car imported specially from the USA, from Pontiac to chev to AMC. In fact in Adelaide they have the home of the australian AMC car club, I think it's in Adelaide. but I know there are a few there.
The main difference I think you will find between the USA and Australia is lack of Pick up trucks. Instead we have UTE's
I suggest you look at some web sites like
www.hsv.com.au and proberly www.fpv.com.au
to give you a current idea of aussie muscle cars as not alot has change much.
