I may be replacing my exhaust system soon. Just like to know what are my options for a non fart cannon system If I do go ahead, I will replace my cat as well.

does you car have 4ws?
if it does you might want to opt for the more expensive mandrel bent system, 2.5inchs would be about the right size for a na v6 id imagine. If you dont have 4WS then you could get away with a cheaper press bent exhaust at around 2.75inches as there arent those twists and turns just before the muffler, the larger diameter will improve airflow around the bends as with press bent they are not uniform but instead slightly compressed in the centre of the curve reducing pipe diameter.
As far as sound is concerned you can always ask the exhaust centre to test a few different mufflers before they weld it on, whatever you do tho, make sure its straight through, also make sure that the inlet and outlet of the cat is the same diameter of the piping.

You want a performace syste mbut no noise go fit a syste off a V6 holden but not the pipes cheap and works, look for old holden mufflers and even cat for extra performance or V8 system, they flow quite well and on smaller motors do muffler quite a bit, but I find don't make noise inside only a little out side.

Cars 4WS. Seems like the mandrel bent system is the way to go. I'll have a look around.
BTW by non fart cannon, I meant I dont want a 5 inch exhaust pipe Im after a nice exhaust noise, not a loud one. thanx

Go 2.5 inch mandrel go from begining of CAT , Fit a NEW CAT trust me it's proberly block if it's original they don't last long. straight through Hot Dog to stop you from going into way loud intrusive sounds and rear muffler.
