Ask someone who's an expert on how to do it. BUt usually when replacing ball joints, they're stuffed anyway.

the ball joints are only a couple of months old, so they wouldnt be stuffed, the only reason I want to remove them is to lower the front end.
V8 Wagon:
undo the nut until the top of the nut is flush with the top of the thread then give it a sharp tap with a hammer from the side (not from the top) this should pop it off the taper and allow easy access to the spring. If you do this to the top ball joint you can push the upper control arm up and the lower one (complete with hub and caliper) down to get into the spring.
