SikXC: I would like to know what exactly is involved in converting a 250 x-flow TE Cortina From Auto to Manual and vice versa also what about kickdown cable set-up etc?
V8 Wagon: changing from auto to manual: you will need: gear box (borg warner 4speed single rail with cortina quadrant and extension housing) gear stick (get a new G nut while your at it, thats the little plastic nut that holds it in, worn ones have a tendancy to slip out and leave you waving a gearstick at passing motorists) bell housing, clutch, pressure plate, throwout lever and bearing, clutch cable and peddles.
It's a pretty straight forward take one out and put the other in setup, the hole is already there for the clutch cable, the drive shaft is the same, as is the crossmember. you may want to replace the speedo worm gear before you put the box in as these tend to wear out, it's just a matter of taking the extension housing off, changing them over, making a new gasket and putting it back together The reverse light wires run to the auto shifter, if you extend them by about 200mm they'll reach the single rail switch
As for the peddles, there not difficult just awkward, if you remove the drivers seat first it allows you too lay on your back looking up at it all. There are two pins, one holds the accelerator and is of no concern. The second holds the brake or the brake and clutch in manuals. You can either remove this pin and swap over the pedals taking note of where all of the plastic bushes and steel washers go, or you can unbolt the whole assembly from the firewall and swap them over, whichever you find easier. The radiator: simply disconnect the transmission cooler pipes and throw them away. I think thats about it....it has been a while since I did one so I may have forgotten something but I'm sure you'll figure it out it's all pretty simple.
SikXC: Cheers For That Keff.
I'm looking at purchasing an auto TE cortina thats all and i got a manual one here but it needs too much work to be a great car. probably like 4 grands worth, hehe.
And download mIRC at www.mirc.com
MarkZE: Check the firewall. The little tube for the clutch cable to come through is not always there on an auto car. I had to weld a tube in myself to go manual.
-------------------- WHOHOO ... got my opens today ... as much as it would matter to me anyway ... and 96 in the ash tray! |
