Hi every1! I've had my my mx6 for just over 2 yrs now, and lately my car has been running a bit rich and using up a bit of oil. I'm currently using Shell Helix 15w 50 and it's burning too quickly. Is there a better oil to use than this in a 1990 mod 1st gen mx6. The oil i'm currently using has been used in it since new.
Any suggestions are appreciated

| Is it truly running rich or just burning oil? I would be more concerned with determining why that has started happening. Going to a slightly heavier oil may help reduce oil consumption at the downside of it taking slightly longer to get the oil up and circulating when cold. Maybe something like a 25w-60 grade would be worth trying. I know Penrite make a semi-synthetic with this rating (in their 10/10ths range) which has had good reports from a few people I know. |

I've been told my car is running a little rich but the oil i topped up about 2-3 mths ago and i checked it out only a couple of weks ago and the stick was bone dry. So, i'm not sur if it's burning way too quickly or if it's just going somewhere because it's not leaking at all.

Well With any car oil is important if you have notihng on the stick be concered it's burning it. Now Qurestion is where, is it the head Valves, or pistons and rings. But I doubt either if car is working fine. I woudl think more turbo related. You see if it's running rich might be ude to your Oxygen Sensor blocked with oil deposits dur to a turbo leakign oil and burning it. It could also be passing it from the intake side and do the same. What your using is Fine for the car infact I would not go thicker as your HLA might get noiser.
A compression test shoudl let you know if it's engine or turbo related. The oil has to be going somewhere. Also get a good oil change done as well. These motors stock will use between a factory 6000k's service about 500ml of oil max in stock form with boost it can go up due to blow by but this will depend on the condition of your motor of course.
